Privacy Policy
Last updated October 13, 2026.
SwellFeed is a free surf forecast site with optional surf alerts by text or notification. This page explains what we collect and why. Questions: support@swellfeed.com.
Using the site
You don't need an account. We don't run ads or tracking cookies. Your saved spots, units, theme and Cam Wall are kept in your own browser. Surf journal entries, saved forecast snapshots, recent playback results and a small activity summary also stay on this device; they are not sent to SwellFeed. You can delete journal entries and reset activity from Surf journal. Clearing site data removes them. Setup exports include your saved spots and preferences, but not alert tokens, push addresses or location. Session exports contain your private surf notes and comparisons; share them only when you choose. Cams play through YouTube's privacy-enhanced player or open on their owners' sites, whose own policies apply.
We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics: which pages are viewed, the site that sent you, your country, device type and browser, and a few named clicks (such as a link to a place to stay or the forecast widget's code). It uses no cookies and keeps no identifier that follows you from day to day. The same counts are kept for our forecast widget on other websites.
Links to places to stay and flights open those companies' sites, whose own policies apply. Some are affiliate links: if you book, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We don't send them anything about you.
Surf alerts
If you sign up for alerts we store: your mobile number (for texts) or your browser's notification address (for notifications); the spots, times, rating threshold and travel radius you choose; the conditions you set for Perfect Waves (wave size, wind, break types and places you'd travel to); your time zone; your home base (one of your spots, or your location rounded to about 100 m if you choose "My current location"); a record of your consent (time, IP address, browser and the exact wording you agreed to); and a log of the messages we send you and the replies you text back.
We use this only to send the alerts you asked for, answer your replies, keep required consent records and keep the service running.
Business requests
If you ask about SwellFeed for Business, we store what you send (your business name, your name, email, phone, website, the breaks and plan you're interested in and your message), the time, the page language, and a one-way hash of your IP address to stop abuse. We use it only to reply and to set up your widget, and delete it within 12 months if you don't become a customer.
Sharing
We do not sell your information. We use service providers only to run SwellFeed: Twilio (text delivery), Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting and visit counts), your browser's push service (notifications) and, if you pay, Stripe (payments). They process data on our behalf and may not use it for anything else. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
How long we keep it
We keep your alert settings while you're subscribed. After you stop, we delete them within 30 days, except consent and opt-out records, which we keep for up to 4 years to show we honored your choices.
Your choices
Reply STOP to any text to stop texts. Use the settings link in your welcome message to change or pause alerts. Email us to see or delete your information. SwellFeed is not intended for children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update this page and the date above, and tell alert subscribers before the change applies to them.
